Healthy Eats

The love affair Philly has with honeygrow knows no bounds – and for good reason. The fast-casual restaurant is locally-born, serves a bang-up salad and stir-fry, and brings people together over high quality, wholesome foods. Far from a two-trick pony, they also offer cold-pressed juices and a create-your-own bowl of fresh fruits and toppings. Whether you stick to the menu or chart your own path, honeygrow is home base for fueling up for your next adventure. Who knew sticking to from-scratch sauces and dressings, incorporating healthy fats, factoring in fiber, and (maybe) going meatless could taste so good? To echo the message stamped on their iconic stir-fry containers – courtesy of Philly-based street artist Amberella – “You got this.”

If “giant salad” is to “nutritious lunch,” “açaí bowl” may double for “balanced breakfast.” Layered like a corked bottle of sand art, an açaí bowl is a thing of beauty, beginning with a base of palm fruit puree followed by an artful arrangement of bananas, strawberries, and blueberries. A handful of homemade granola and a shower of coconut flakes top the fresh fruit, and a drizzle of honey caps it all off. Want to sub almond milk into your açaí blend or top your bowl with chia seeds? No problem. SoBol’s gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan-friendly bowls can be customized as you see fit. Superfoods, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, and the “good” fats – the gang’s all here. Want in on the morning meal reigning supreme on social media? Swing by SoBol Philly to meet the Instagram darling IRL. Bonus points if you can pronounce açaí (ah-sigh-EE), but no one dishing up the eye-catching, ultra-thick, smoothie-sorbet at this neighborhood newcomer will judge.

Exercise and Fitness

Speaking of exercising with others, how about signing up for a 5k around Penn Park? Or maybe it’s as simple as setting aside 15-20 minutes to walk around the track at lunch one day next week. Getting up from your desk isn’t only advantageous for your physical health – it can also be landscape-altering for mental health. Even a short walk around the block can do wonders for your mood. (And productivity. And ability to cope with stress.) Like a good game plan? Keep these one, two, and three mile routes through the nation’s most beautiful and historic campus in your back pocket. And remember, fall is fleeting. Whether you’re walking, jogging, or training, don’t miss a single opportunity to soak in the sights, admire the foliage, and crunch all the crunchy leaves.
