Taste the World

Who doesn’t love to devour some delicious Mexican food? El Taco has been serving the University City community since 2018 and has now come to Shop Penn with its new location on Spruce Street. Chef Edna Luna takes the lessons learned from her mother who owned a restaurant in Guatemala and puts them to use making Mexican-inspired dishes including crispy tacos, quesadillas, and burrito bowls. When you visit, you have to try the homemade guacamole and salsas, with varieties ranging from creamy chipotle to smoky guajillo or the spicy El Scorpion.

Bring your taste buds on a journey to Venezuela at Puyero where traditional street food meets modern culinary creativity. This vibrant eatery serves up authentic arepas - grilled corn patties stuffed with a variety of fillings - alongside other Venezuelan staples like patacones (fried plantain sandwiches) and tequeños (cheese-filled pastries). Brothers Gil and Simon Arends, along with Simon's wife Manuela, launched Puyero to share their homeland's rich culinary heritage with Philadelphia. Their menu perfectly balances authentic Venezuelan flavors with contemporary touches, making it equally appealing to adventurous foodies and those new to Venezuelan cuisine.
